For more safety and stability: Sensors for tracks & railroad traffic


Micro-Epsilon sensors reliably measure and monitor essential parameters for tracks and in railroad traffic, making a major contribution to improved safety and smoother processes. They are used both in the train and in the measurement wagon, in testing systems and in measuring machines.

The ever-increasing utilization of rail networks and rail vehicles means that measurements must be carried out regularly, reliably and with high accuracy. Sensors from Micro-Epsilon make a significant contribution to the safety and stability of railcars, wagons, wheel tires, brakes, track and rails. They are used, among other things, to record wheel tire profiles, inclination angles, vibrations, rail profiles, bearing gaps in axle bearings, lift heights, and rail wear on high-speed railway lines.

Measurements are taken using different measuring principles such as inductive sensors, eddy current sensors, laser scanners, as well as inclination and acceleration sensors. Often, these sensors must provide accurate results even under the most adverse weather conditions, grinding dust and vibrations.

Eddy current sensors can be used, for example, to permanently check the oil gap in axle bearings of high-speed trains. Laser sensors, for example, can detect the profile sets of entire trains as a preventive measure, which enables maintenance dates for reprofiling to be determined. Robust magneto-inductive sensors are ideal for outdoor use and provide long-term stable measurement results. This allows statements to be made about the movement and deformation of concrete sleepers in curves, the load of which is very high, especially in busy curves. Inductive displacement sensors of the induSENSOR EDS series are integrated into high-speed trains to measure the inclination of the coach body. This reduces the effect of lateral acceleration forces on passengers.
