Precise thickness measurement of strip and plate materials
2022-02-02
The thicknessGAUGE systems provide highly accurate thickness values for strip and sheet materials. In addition to the C-frame models, they can now also be integrated into the production line as O-frame versions. They can be perfectly adapted to the measurement task and the object surfaces to be measured by using different sensor technologies such as laser scanners, laser triangulation sensors, confocal sensors and electromagnetic combination sensors.
The thicknessGAUGE systems enable 100% inline thickness measurements while offering the highest precision and flexibility. They can be customized in terms of measuring width, measuring range and operating range to suit the belt material to be measured. This and the good price-performance ratio are particularly interesting for the OEM sector.
The systems are calibrated automatically on a regular basis and within a few seconds. In addition, a comprehensive software package is included. This contains powerful signal processing for precise and stable measurement values, an article database and an SPC package. Furthermore, statistical evaluations and fully automated documentation and control of the manufacturing process are possible. Continuous monitoring of defined target parameters and limit values are also included. Furthermore, it offers fully automatic documentation of the measuring equipment capability, as well as flexible communication interfaces via Ethernet, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET or EtherCAT for connection to the production line.
Micro-Epsilon offers different models. The C.L series operates based on laser triangulation sensors. These impress with their favorable price/performance ratio, as well as a high measuring rate and precision. They detect the thickness of wood, plastics and metals to an accuracy of ±4 to ±20 µm and a measuring rate up to 4 kHz.
Confocal chromatic sensors are found in the C.C series. With a measuring rate up to 5 kHz and an accuracy of ±0.25 µm, measurements can also be performed against specular and shiny measuring objects as well as transparent and semi-transparent films.
In thickness measurements of perforated plate and embossed boards, as well as for roller control and quality documentation, the C.LP series is the preferred choice. Equipped with laser profile scanners, measuring rates up to 100 Hz and an accuracy up to ±0.5 µm can be achieved.
The latest O.EC models are based on a combiSENSOR, which combines an inductive sensor based on eddy currents and a capacitive sensor and therefore can measure the thickness of non-conductive materials, which are guided over a measuring roller. They are particularly suitable for reliable and precise thickness measurement of films and plastic strips.
